What a great set of videos from Ted-Ed. These short segments narrated by Gina Cooke, Kate Gardoqui, and Matthew Winkler examine words and the English language coupled with visual media. It’s an awesome way to start a discussion with the kids about language learning. Instead of just rote memorization of difficult words, why not examine the word for its roots?
On a more realistic note, however, engaging in systematic etymology with a 3 year old might be overkill. Better to watch a few episodes of Word World. But for our prodigy K-12-ers, maybe going back over the list of sight words as a starting point is in order.
